After that, I ran into a tea parlor. I had my eye on the parlor beforhand. And I ate two dishes of dumplings.

I had no meal from the morning. So, that coudn't satisfy my hunger. But I recovered somewhat.

I got used to peddling to some degree.

I could now visit people's home without considerable hesitation. But my sales were still poor.

If I earned 30 cents a day, I did a good job. However, I would be charged 9 cents for 30 cents as the 30-percent commision. That couldn't cover the daily living expenses.

Then, I just sold the purchased goods. So, I couldn't purchased the goods again.

The soles of my clogs were quickly worn out because of walking nonstop. But I couldn't buy new clogs.

And so, I often got woman's clogs thrown away in the neighborhood or in the garbage box of a large residence on the outskirts.

I sometimes chaged my clogs even to man's clogs, and I walked.

I had time to go to the schools. But I had no money for the monthly fees. So, I dicided to go to Seisoku language school only.

Those days, I was in my second year. I had to attend the summer special course. It began at 7 a.m.

I got up early and read a few lines of the Bible. And I got down on my knees by a wall and prayed. After that, I went out to school.

I already sold off my washbowl, and so, I couldn't wash my face.

On my way to school, I washed my face using the washbasin at the exit of the public lavatory in Yushima Park.

When I had money, I made a detour through Shohei Bridge to have breakfast at a snack bar under the overpass.

When I had no money, I went to school through a shortcut from Juntendo side to Ochanomizu area.

After getting to attend the course, I was blessed by good luck.

There were a few female students in the course. One of them was Miss Kawada. She brought a big lunch box filled with rice for me every day.

Her brother was a socialist who lived around Totsuka town.
