――　Ｐａｇｅ１　――
Long long ago, the Kiso river rose gradually because it continued to rain in the middle of autumn.

In Ibori village of Owari province, the village people were afraid that the banks of the river might break.

And so, they were watching the river every day.

むかし、尾張の井堀という村で、秋のなかばに毎日雨ばかり降って、木曽川の水が段々に高くなり、堤が切れるかも知れないと心配して、村の人たちが起きて水番をしていることがありました．

――　Ｐａｇｅ２　――
In the midnight of a day, they could hear someone calling from around the deep water at the foot of Mt. Ikayama of Mino province on the other side of the river.

"Shall I give it to you? Shall I give it to you? ..."

All the village people were merely wondering at the voice.

And they could not do anything and were looking at each other.

The voice never stopped.

At last, one of laborers got to feel fear.

And he answered unconsciously in a high tone "Give it to us if you can!"

或る晩の真夜中頃に、川の向かいの美濃の伊木山の下の淵あたりから、頻りにやろうかあ、やろうかあと呼ぶ声がしました．

一同は唯不思議に思うばかりで、どうすることも出来ずに顔を見合わせていましたが、いつ迄もそのやろうかあという声が止まないので、しまいには恐ろしくなって人夫の中の一人が、思わず知らず高い声で、いこさばいこせえと言ってしまいました．

Then, a severe flood suddenly hit all the rice fields in every side.

So, even now, this flood is called as " SHALL-I-GIVE water".

Some people say this occurred in 1687 (about 250 years ago).

And also, people say similar traditions are known in villages near this big river.

そうすると忽ち大水がどっと押し寄せて、見ているうちにこの辺の田が全部、水の下になったということであります．

それで今でもその時の洪水を、やろか水と言っております．

今から２５０年ほど前の、貞享４年の事だという人がありますが、この大川の附近には、他にもそういう話が村々にあるそうです．
