The big city, Tokyo, in the dead of night ...
大東京の深夜・・・
―― ０２ ――
I exhausted after a spree in a nightclub.
And, I was walking heavily toward my home alone with my head drooped.
クラブで遊び疲れたあげく、タッタ一人で首垂れて、トボトボと歩きながら自宅の方へ帰りかけた・・・
―― ０３ ――
I unexpectedly looked up, because every sides reflected light suddenly.
・・・私はフト顔を上げた．そこいら中がパアット明るくなったので・・・
―― ０４ ――
... At the moment ...
A car passes by like a blast of wind.
Its loud horn surprised me.
But, I had no time only for jumping away.
・・・そのとたん・・・
飛び上がるようなサイレンの音に、ハッと驚いて飛び退く間もなく、一台の自動車が疾風のように私を追い抜いた．
―― ０５ ――
... A cloud of dust blew up ... The smell of gasoline drifted ...
The license plate of 4444 and its red lamp were getting smaller and smaller rapidly ...
・・・続いて起こる砂ほこり・・・ガソリンの臭い・・・
４４４４の番号と、赤いランプが見る見るうちに小さく小さく・・・
―― ０６ ――
... Let me see ... I wonder if the passenger of that car is a doll ...
Her profile was too beautiful.
I couldn't see her clothes. But she had attractive hair in a bun and the powdered face. She was calmly under green light ...
Gazing at the front straightly, she went away together with the driver.
She was smiling a faint smile with her wide-open eyes like black quartz.
・・・ハテナ・・・あの自動車の主は人形じゃなかったかしら・・・
あんまり綺麗すぎる横顔であった．
着物はよくわからなかったが、水の滴るような束髪に結って、真白に白粉をつけて、緑色の光の下にチンと澄まして・・・
黒水晶のような眼をパッチリと開いて、こころ持ち微笑みを含みながら、運転手と一緒に、一直線の真正面を見詰めて行った．
―― ０７ ――
She was leaning back and looked to be prim. Indeed, she seemed to be a doll ...
While I thought such a thing, another car came from behind me again.
I immediately turned around.
あの反り身になった澄まし加減がイカニモ人形らしかった・・・
と思う中に又一台あとから自動車が来た．
私はすぐに振り返ってみた．
―― ０８ ――
The passenger of this car was a gentleman wearing a Panama hat.
He was red-faced and majestically fat like a type of rich ...
He was laying his hands on his knees tidily and was leaning back slightly.
He was straightly and smilingly gazing at the front.
And he passed by together with the driver.
The license number was 11111 ...
... It's a doll! Doll! This gentleman is surely a doll ... Something ... Strange ...
その自動車の主はパナマ帽を冠った紳士であった．
赤ら顔の堂々と肥った、富豪の典型のような・・・
それが両手をチャンと膝に於いて、心持ち反り身になったまま、運転手と一緒に、一直線の真正面をニコニコと凝視しながら、私の前をスーッと通り過ぎた．
自動車の番号は１１１１１・・・
・・・人形だ人形だ．今の紳士は確かに人形だった・・・ハテナ・・・オカシイゾ・・・
―― ０９ ――
... Thinking such a thing, I stiffened like a stone.
Then, another car came and I stared at the inside of the car.
・・・と考えているうちに私は又、石のように固くなったまま向うから来かかった自動車の内部を凝視した．
―― １０ ――
... This time, the passenger was a monk wearing a clerical robe of brocade.
He was a doll with a straight nose like a young elegant prince ...
He smoothly went away with his hands together and with his eyes slightly downcast.
・・・今度は金襴の法衣を着た坊さんであった．
若い、品のいい宮様のように鼻筋のとおった人形・・・
それが心持ち眼を伏せて、両手を拝み合わせたままスーッとすべって行った．

I shuddered with fear.
The neighborhood was a deathly silent street ...
The sky was filled with a lot of stars ...
This was a mystery of Tokyo in the dead of night ...
I saw those alone ...
I felt something imminent, vague, weird, huge and fearful.
I had no time to lose. I started to walk hastily toward my home.
私はブルブルと身震いをした．
あたりは森閑とした街路・・・
大空は星でいっぱい・・・
深夜の東京の怪・・・
私がタッタ一人で見た・・・
私は、私の周囲に迫りつつある、何とも知れない、気味のわるい、巨大な、恐ろしいものを感じた．
一刻も早く家に帰るべくスタスタと歩き出した．

At that time, two cars stealthily came from before and behind me.
... I and ...
... My dream of ...
... The image on the day of my wedding ceremony ...
その時に私の前と背後から、二台の自動車が音もなく近づいて来た．
・・・私と・・・
・・・私の夢の・・・
・・・結婚式当日の姿・・・

I ran away.
私は逃げ出した．

I rushed at the front door of the nightclub.
And I fell down to the doormat.
クラブの玄関へ駆け込んで、マットの上にぶッ倒れた．

この本はパブーで公開した電子書籍、夢野絵本「怪夢（街路）」を加筆修正したものです．
参考文献：
夢野久作全集3（1992年8月24日第1刷発行 夢野久作著 ちくま文庫）
『赤いランプ』と『緑色の光』の意味について：
５および６ページに『赤いランプ』と『緑色の光』と云う言葉が出てきますが、何を示しているのか、読み取れませんでした．推測すれば、自動車のテールランプか、タクシーの屋根の上の会社名の表示灯か、街路灯、と云った所だとは思いますが、昭和初期の状況に於いて果してそれで良いか、分かりませんでした．また夢野久作が欧米の小説を翻案した可能性もありますが、よく分かりません．当翻訳においては「its red lamp」および「green light」と訳語を当てました．
